While browsing through places for a weekend getaway, I came across Kawartha Lake. The city of Ontario has so much to offer to tourists. The scenic beauty and the local cuisine are sure to melt your heart. However, it is not just about the lake there are some other things to do. I had so much fun taking part in the various outdoor adventures. Here’s my pick of the best things to in Kawartha.
- Go bird watching
Return of the migratory birds is the sure sign that spring is knocking on the door of Kawartha Lake. There are more 259 species of birds to be found here. I go to see some birds while I was cycling and walking. I could spot pelicans, swans, eagles, turkeys, in hummingbirds. If you are an avid birdwatcher, you can take a look at the events organized by the Peterborough Field Naturalists.
- Enjoy cycling
Go cycling among the beauties of nature. Dodge the wild turkeys and butterflies while you cycle along the trail. Take a break from the crowd came as a respite. It has built on a former railway bed. This trail is a part of the 300 km cycling routes which is dedicated to the area of Kawartha Lakes.
- Visit a museum
The Olde Gaol Museum is a prime attraction here. You will find this inside the former Victoria County Jail. I got to learn about a lot of things regarding the early life of the region. However, the exhibits inside the prison will give you goosebumps. I learned about children who served jail time when they were only 10 years old.
- Have butter tarts
If you are a foodie like me, do not miss out on the tour of Northumberland Butter Tart. There are over 50 shops. And each of the shops serves delicious tarts. So, go on a tart eating spree.
